Rajon Rondo opens up about the Boston Celtics playoff run last season – NBA Update
Boston Celtics star Rajon Rondo gave some insight into his side’s last season playoffs run during a recent interview.
Rondo has become an integral part of the Boston Celtics roster over the last few years and is, at present, ranked as one of the best point guards in NBA.
His sudden ascent, especially to such high echelons of the game, wasn’t really expected.
However, in a team boosting legendary NBA stalwarts like Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and Ray Allen, Rondo has really found his groove. There is no doubt that being surrounded by such amazing talent at such a young age, really helped
in bringing the best out of Rajon, but it is also true that he always had that amazing athletic ability and eye for a pass which have made him such a dangerous opponent for any team in the league.
Alongside the Big Three of Boston, Rondo is a pillar of strength for the Boston Celtics, although all of them couldn’t help the side from being knocked out relatively early from the playoffs last year.
The Celtics started well. Paired against a resurgent New York Knicks side, the C’s showed their pedigree, sending Carmelo Anthony & Co. packing in 4 games.
Rondo however revealed that it wasn’t as easy as it looked.
“There were some intense games, and it could have gone a different way if our guys didn’t make shots for us,” he says. “It was a fun series, though, being that the Knicks hadn’t made the playoffs in so long -- and the Celtics going
against the Knicks is a good rivalry.” He said speaking at the Red Bull King of Rock event.
The player knows that it’s the little things that can make a difference in the post season, because mentally everyone has to be focused all the time.
“Mentally, you’ve got to be tougher,” he said about playing in the postseason. “There’s a little bit of adrenaline, but you’ve got to take care of your body. It’s time to step up.”
After sweeping the Knicks, the Celtics weren’t able to progress past the super stars of Miami Heat. LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh were a class apart in the conference semifinals. Miami’s triple ripple got their act together
and clinically disposed off an aging roster, which depended too heavily on Garnett, Allen and Pierce.
The painful elbow injury, Rondo suffered in the game-3 of the series didn’t help either. His effectiveness was visibly reduced afterwards and he pretty much had to play one handed. As it turns out, Rajon is still recovering from
the blow and doesn’t have fond memories of the incident.
“Pop! It was loud,” he said a couple of weeks ago during a photo shoot in Boston. “I was in shock, more than anything. It wasn’t a lot of pain, it was shock.”
