Rajon Rondo extends his run of double digit assists to 24 games to help the Boston Celtics defeat the Milwaukee Bucks 87-74 in the regular season finale ….
On Thursday night, Rajon Rondo returned to action in a spectacular way, continuing his streak of double digit assists, making it 24 games to help the Boston Celtics ease their way to an 87-74 win over the undermanned Milwaukee
Bucks here at the TD Garden in Boston.
"It's probably something I'll look back on and appreciate, but right now I'm trying to focus on the wins and get through the playoffs and try to win a championship." Rondo said after the game;
Along with Rondo, the C`s had couple of other players returning to game time action in Kevin Garnett and Mickael Pietrus. Boston, were however led in scoring by their 2nd year guard Avery Bradley, who finished the game
with 14 points.
Paul Pierce, who had to leave the game to get his toe taken care of in the early stages of the game, returned to the action to finish off with 12 points. Even though none of the other players got to scoring in double digits, however,
the Celtics roster was extremely resourceful on the night as every one of their players got their name on the score sheet.
The overall distribution on the night was significant proof of that fact. Good shots were let up to create better shots as the Boston team finished the night with 27 assists.
Nine players took part in the game for the Bucks with Tobias Harris being their leading scorer with 16 points. Jon Leuer helped him out by racking up 15 points while Brandon Jennings and Mike Dunleavy scored 12 and 10 points respectively.
Pierce started things off for the Celtics by scoring 5 quick points courtesy of an assist each from Garnett and Rondo. The offensive effectiveness continued for the home side as they raced to a 15-8 lead. However, in the remaining
portion of the first quarter, the Bucks closed things out on a 10-6 run to make the score 18-21 after the first 12 minutes.
The scoring prowess continued for Boston in the second quarter, which they started with a 12-2 run. In that period, the C`s were able to rack up an astounding 39 points and extend their advantage to as much as 14 at one point in
the early stages.
While the offensive dominance continued, the home side did not slack on the defensive end. They were able to hold the Bucks to only manage 24 points in that frame and at the half way mark were leading by 18 points, which really
set the tone for the rest of the game.
The third quarter was an evenly contested battle of the defences. Bucks were only allowed to score 19 while the Celtics only managed 18 points in that frame. However this low scoring period did not make much difference to the Boston`s
lead, the scores were 78-61.
If the third quarter was low scoring, the fourth quarter dropped down further in that aspect with both sides combining to get 22 points in the last 12 minutes. For the home side who had led for the entire game, Coach Doc Rivers
decided to put out his second unit for the fourth period.
But the second unit, despite failing to score much in the frame held the Bucks to only 13 points. In the end Boston were able to hold on this one by a double digit lead of 13 points.
