Rajon Rondo reveals he wanted to be an NFL quarterback growing up – NBA News
Rajon Rondo has been touring Asia recently as part of Red Bull’s King of the Rock tournament promotion. While on the tour, Rondo has been giving some very interesting interviews, making news along the way and turning a few heads.
In a recent interview with the South China Morning Post, Rondo talked about his high school years, development as a point guard in the NBA, and his childhood desire of being an NFL quarterback next season.
“I didn't watch a lot of NBA games growing up. I watched the Green Bay Packers. I always had dreams of being an NFL player. I was a high school quarterback and I really think that has helped me become a leader on the basketball
court. They are pretty much the same position. The quarterback is the guy who calls all the plays and gets all the attention and the same with the point guard in basketball,” said Rondo.
Rondo went on to talk about how he played three games until high school, football, basketball and baseball. The Celtics point guard said basketball became the final choice because he genuinely felt that this was the sport in which
he could make it to the highest level and stay consistently successful.
Rondo was also asked about the breakout point guard Jeremy Lin, and had some encouraging words to say for him. Lin is an NBA player of Chinese/Taiwanese descent and took the NBA by storm last season when he had a breakout span
for the New York Knicks. Since then, he has signed a huge three year deal (for a player of his experience) with the Houston Rockets, and has become a household name in Asia.
"I hope he has success with the Rockets, except against the Celtics. We plan on beating the Rockets pretty bad this year and hopefully I have something to do with it,” said Rondo about Lin.
Rondo had one of the most memorable games of his NBA career against Lin and the New York Knicks last season. Rondo finished 18 points, 20 assists and 17 rebounds in the overtime victory, and will be looking forward to the challenge
next season when Lin faces off against him as a member of the Houston squad.
