Rajon Rondo thrilled with Boston Celtics game-2 win over the Atlanta Hawks – NBA Update
The Boston Celtics pulled out an away win against the Atlanta Hawks to level their Eastern Conference first round playoffs series at 1 game apiece. While all of the Celtics players were jubilant afterwards, none was more ecstatic that point guard Rajon Rondo.
Rondo did not take any part in the game as he was serving a one game suspension following an incident in game-1. Therefore, he thought he had let his teammates down and put them in a tough situation. When they raked in the victory without him, he breathed
easy as the guilt subsided.
Rajon said he was overwhelmed with joy after his teammates won the game, and celebrated with them, picking out Kevin Garnett as the first one he encountered down the tunnel.
"I think I ran down the tunnel and gave (Kevin Garnett) the first hug, told him, 'Thank you.' I appreciate everything you guys have done for me," Rondo said.
He knew they were all in it together, but after the first game he felt he had put the team in a precarious position but his teammates gave him their full support, and told him they had won the game for him.
"Obviously, they won it for themselves, but they told me, 'We got this one for you.' That felt good. It felt like I was a part of it. It changed the series."
Game 1 had not gone Boston’s way and the frustration got to Rondo, who bumped into a referee. The player was ejected and after the game pleaded that the bump was an unintentional one. The NBA though saw it fit to ban him for a game.
Rondo opined that the moment got too big for him in game one and he let it get the better of him, resulting ultimately in his one game suspension.
"I try not to let my emotions get the best of me, but I'm an emotional player," Rondo said at the team’s practice facility. "I try to keep my composure and my emotions to myself, but it was a heat-of-the-battle moment and I wanted to win. We make mistakes."
The player will be back in action for the Celtics when they take on the Hawks in game-3 of their series at the TD Garden.
