Raleigh, LAN-Comcast ride to victories in 2011 AMG Mercedes Miami Beach Polo World Cup
A combination of disciplined and mature games from Luis Escobar and Pelan Escapite guided Raleigh to another victory in the ongoing 2011 AMG Mercedes Miami Beach Polo World Cup on Saturday.
Due to an impressive victory in the second consecutive game, the Raleigh team moved forward into the finals of the event.
The game started in quite an aggressive way, as some eight goals were scored in the first half of play. Luis Escobar and Pelan Escapite scored two goals apiece and put their team ahead on the way to success. However, the attackers from AMG-Mercedes were
not sitting around and watching the match. Tommy Biddle and Max Secunda scored two and one goal respectively and proved their presence onto the field. Another Raleigh goal went up on the scoreboard from Bash Kazi to conclude the first round action with Raleigh
sitting on top by a couple of goals, 5-3.
In the second half of play, Escobar scored another three goals of which two were taken on penalty shots while other from the field. In the later time, Escapite added a couple of goals and expanded the lead up to seven points, 10-3. However, the players from
AMG-Mercedes were not ready to give up and continued the struggle until the final whistle of the completion of time.
John Walsh, the skipper of the AMG-Mercedes managed his first goal of the day in the final round. Biddle added four more unanswered goals and reduced the lead up to two goals. It was the last offence from their side and they lost the game 10-8, as the final
horn sounded.
In an unprecedented move, LAN-Comcast has emerged victorious over Hublot in the round match of the Miami Beach Polo World Cup. Jason Crowder stole the show and was the real architect of the victory. He scored five goals and made the victory possible. It
was a major upset for Hublot, the winner of the 2010 World Championship.
In the last contest of the day, Yellow Cab overpowered Grey Goose by four points, 11-7. It was another upset of the tournament that allowed Hublot to contest the finals against Raleigh. Brandon Phillips was the legendary player who scored six goals and made
the victory possible.
In the final action, Yellow Cab will face LAN-Comcast to decide the fate of the Julius Fleishman Memorial Cup, which is the subsidiary tournament title of the event. AMG-Mercedes will meet with Grey Goose in the finals of the Carl Fischer International Challenge
Cup, which is the second subsidiary title.
In the main finals of the 2011 AMG-Mercedes Miami Beach Polo Cup, the Raleigh team will face the defending champions Hublot.
