I agree that during martial law, rallies toppled the dictatorship of marcos, although I don’t think it was a good idea since marcos is the best president the Philippines ever had, I still believe that it shows how powerful united Filipino can be. But I think presently, this medicine that once used to cure the ailments of the society is now being utilized by some politician whose main purpose is to gain popularity. I think that rallies today caused more damage than help. It caused traffic, threatens investors and branded Filipino people as the worlds “top whiner”. Tsk! another title indeed...

  1. Look around.

Does it solve the misery of living human kind in own backyards without a solution?

Or making a mess in beating the tin cans?

Ever wonder why they could not come up with a solution for the good of mankind?

Ever wonder what went wrong out there?

Decode this lyrics " Begin the begin"

    Start tracing the faults.

See where did they go wrong.

Then correct the mess out there.

Why beat the tin cans with no solution in sight?

Where is the human intelligent in them all out there?

    So what went wrong?

  2. Rallies in the Philippines serve the purpose of expressing the views of the participants.  These participants are usally a small number of commited citizens who are standing up for a much larger portion of our society.  Rallies can help draw light to problems and needs.  Rallies can stir up dialogue.

Unfortunatly in the Philippines, Rallies are also bought.  But, to be honest, this occurs to a degree at all Rallies.  In many well developed nations Rallies are orchestrated by groups that consider accomdations, food, trash removal, funding sinage, pre-rally training, and even reimbursment for the time the demonstrators spent on the line.  Even Unions pay members to be part of rallies (to some degree) and even strike.

Most importantly, Rallies can cause an impact on traffic, investment rates, stocks, etc.  But again, this can bring out a debate and put the matter up to the attention of more people.  And unfortunatly, sometimes the only way people will listen is if they are stopped in traffic, or lose money through investors and stocks.

  3. Not really, anything in excess is bad. The government officials by now prob just bets to see if there gonna be a rally or not that day.

  4. Having been to the Philippines many times,I feel that the rallies are somewhat of a detriment to the long term economy.Investors look for:Adequate infrastructure, available workforce, government stability, ease of goods transport,etc... The rallies seem to show a lack of government stability as well as highlighting perceived problems, weather they be education, infrastructure ,etc...There is an old saying that goes:"don't air you dirty laundry".It's basically telling you to keep your problems to yourself and not share them with the world.
