  1. These new cards are extremely suspicious. They get very irrate if you ask too many questions about them. My hunch is that the new ones have some sort of tracking devices built in. I heard a radio program about this sort of thing being on the horizon over a year ago, and how the new cards will even further violate your privacy. If Ralph's has a monopoly in your neighborhood, you might consider applying for the new card under a name such as Better Crocker or Mr. (Please don't squeeze the Charmin) Whipple. If you don't like that, how about Charlie Tuna? Or Josephine Plumber?

  2. The Rewards Card at Ralph's program seems pretty straightforward:  you get 1 point for every $1 you spend, payable in increments of $5.00 certificates for 500 accumulated points.  The payout schedule is quarterly, according to their website.

You just present it with your cash, or check or debit/credit card when you pay at the checkout to get the points, similar to a Best Buy card or one like that.  They do offer a MasterCard called the MC Reward Card, so yes, that is a little confusing, but you no doubt pay with that as you do with any other method AND present the Rewards Card.  If they aren't linked somehow, well, one more thing to carry LOL.

There are probably no more privacy issues with the new instrument than there were with the regular Club card.  The application I filled out (at which time I surrendered my old card) asks you the same-o same-o info:  name, address and phone.

While we're all concerned about our privacy, and rightfully so, I've never been too worried if a market knows how many pints of Ben & Jerry's or mouthwash I've purchased.  If this generates additional savings by generating coupons tailored to my purchases history, it's okay with me.   If it is a concern, yep, do what the prior poster suggested....apply with a fake name.  If anyone's concerned when you pay and the names don't match, smile and say you're using your husband or wife's card for points today.
