Ralph Beckett counting on Secret Gesture to win Epsom Classic – Horseracing News
Ralph Beckett is hopeful that his challenger, Secret Gesture, will be able to claim the Epsom Classic, which will be held at the end of May. He will also test his luck with Look Here, but expects better results from the former
of the two fillies.
The veteran trainer said, “You can never be confident going into a Classic but I am very excited. I have greater expectations of her than I had with Look Here, who won in 2008. We targeted the Lingfield Oaks Trial earlier this
month to see if she was as good as we thought and to gauge how well she handles gradients.”
He added, “I expected her to win, but not in my wildest dreams did I think it would be by ten lengths. I've been very pleased with her work since, and we go to the Oaks at Epsom on Friday with her as well as I could hope.”
Although Secret Gesture is still new to the sport, she has proved that she is quite capable of handling the pressure at the highest level. Her performances until now have been really impressive, which will definitely help her get
the attention of the punters.
The bookies also rate the young filly highly and she is currently given the best odds for winning the Epsom Classic. She had debuted in 2012 and finished as a runner up in her first ever outing.
This performance was enough for the talented filly to get the best odds for victory in her next race. Although there was some pressure on her, she managed to take a comfortable victory to seal a decent season.
Secret Gesture has now started the 2013 season in a positive manner too and will be looking to carry on the positive momentum in the upcoming event. However, she might not be able to walk away with an easy victory this time around,
as there are some decent runners up against her.
One of the favourites will be Moth, who is rated quite highly by the bookies. Although the young filly does not have a good strike rate, she knows how to pressurise her rivals in a race.
