Ralph Beckett shocked after Talent’s disastrous run in Irish Oaks – Horseracing News
Ralph Beckett was simply in a shock about the fact that his trainee, Talent finished last in the Darley Irish Oaks in Ireland recently.
The young filly was expected to be a strong contender for victory in the Group 1 contest, but failed to meet the expectations of her camp. She was given a pretty reasonable starting price by the bookies and the punters also supported
her, by gambling plenty of money in her favour.
Despite that, the three-year-old challenger was unable to cause any problems for her rivals and ended up at the bottom of the table. She was unable to make a strong impression at the start of the race, as some of the slower runners
held her up. However, that was not a big issue, as the overall distance to cover was more than one mile, which meant that there was plenty of time to make a recovery.
Talent’s fans would have been waiting to see her increase her speed towards the ending moments, but that did not happen and she stayed in last, which was quite a massive shock for her camp. There was no apparent reason, which prevented
her from delivering her best, but her trainer will certainly look to find that out soon.
According to Beckett, everything was fine before the start of the race, so he has no idea what happened to his trainee. He added, “She was normal post-race and I haven't got any clues yet as to why she ran like she did. There are
no real answers and we'll have her checked over and wait for the results. She's not back in work yet but I hope she will be in the next couple of days.”
On the other hand, some other top fillies failed to win the race and one of them was Aidan O’Brien’s Venus De Milo, who finished as a runner up overall.
O’Brien was still pleased with the performance of his filly and said, “Venus De Milo ran very well and she might go to Cork, as we'd like to win a Group race with her. She's also in the Yorkshire Oaks, which is 16 days after the
Cork race, so we'll wait and see.”
This was the first time, when the three-year-old challenger lost a race, but her performance was still good enough to earn her the second spot.
