I'm upgrading the Ram in my system. After a scan on crucial, they showed me this ram: http://www.crucial.com/uk/store/mpartspecs.aspx?mtbpoid=A26EB14BA5CA7304

Now the specs on that seem very similar to one i found on ebay., but with a different model number: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/CRUCIAL-PC3200-DDR400-Matched-Pair-2-x-1GB_W0QQitemZ190247287959QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item190247287959&_trkparms=72%3A12|39%3A1|66%3A2|65%3A12|240%3A1318&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

Now the first ones model is:CT542919

And the one on ebays model is:CT12864Z40B

Considering the one on ebay is cheaper, and there's 2gb there which is what im after, will that fit my pc if that first one on crucial was recommended?

The stats seem the same..

Thanks!

  1. Yep.

  2. Both memory options should work within your Compaq Presario. However, it is worth remembering that the memory from Crucial is brand new and packaged. Buying second hand memory can be a minefield.

If the previous owner has not been handling the memory exactly correctly with the correct anti-static precautions they may have damaged the memory. This may mean that it does not perform to the standard it should do.

Obviously the Crucial price would be £46.98 (inc. VAT) for 2GB of memory 'matched' to your system - with free shipping. The E-Bay option will be at least £32.00 including shipping - but personally I would prefer to spend the extra 15 quid to have the security of brand new memory and importantly a warrenty.

Also, the price of the memory on E-Bay can still go up.

Best of luck, which ever option you take.
