Ramadan: Is it a holiday?

Why is it such a worldwide assumption that Ramadan is a holiday? It's even under the holiday section in Y!A.

Eid Al-Fitr and Eid Al-Adha are the two celebrations/holidays. How did people end up thinking a month of worshiping is a holiday?

Actually, after the end of Ramadan, Eid-Al Adha IS a celebration

The only reason they don't give us days off is because those are American Holidays, which Eid obviously isn't

Salam for you No ramadan is not a holiday.During ramadan we should work normally, just the same with another months..But during ramadan we should fasting and increase our good doings We will have holidays on the first and second of Syawal after the end of ramadan because we will heve iedl fitri holidays.Raman is included in holidays because yahoo management do not know about ramadan.They maybe have the opinion that muslims during ramadan have holiday season

I think American schools realized it wasn't when they didn't give us those days of Ramadan off.

But no, its not a holiday.

Holidays are not obligatory.

The reason it is not a holiday is because it is not a set day every year. If it was a set day every year, then this can be argued to congress and it will be set up as a holiday. However, since every year the day varies it prevents the U.S to invoke it as a holiday. Same goes to like Diwali for the Hindus. Jewish holidays and Christian are set that's why they receive the pleasure of having holidays set by congress/state

• “O you who believe, fasting is prescribed for you even as it was prescribed for those before you, that you may learn self-restraint (ward off evil).

Muslims are indeed astray and leading others astray and have forgotten Allah and Quran and what human rights and worship of Allah is about.

They so love Jesus the thief and wait on him to save them that they refuse to honour even the Quran during Ramadan.

They look upon Friday as the Muslim Sabbath and want the day off.  They should be asking for the month of ramadan off too to celebrate their Muslim Christmas, and what a joke this is???

Everyday is holiday yes its to be celebrated tonight the start of Ramadan inshAllah with a big feast and friends

and tommorrow a hard fast for its the first of one for many.

InshAllah at the end the Eid and that is prayers and celebration with many offerings and salutations.

Surely there is always been a way.. I ask you to search for it and find a way to bring it forward on your own also and show others that joy of such month that we have been freed of the evil and allowed to be in peace.

It depends what your definition of "holiday" is. It's not a holiday in the same sense Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha are, but in the most general and original sense of the word it is certainly a period of "holy days", or days specifically recognized as having the special purpose of religious worship (i.e. fasting).
