Question:

Ramadan Section; I gave up my sport because of fasting. Good decision, or bad?

I'm just wondering. I quit because it was difficult for me to stay hydrated - meanwhile everyone around me was eating and drinking the whole time. I couldn't handle it and I don't want to strain during practice every single day because of fasting. Allah won't be mad at me for this right? I just want my fasting to be easier, so as a result i quit my sport. I'm fourteen - and if anyone knows, fasting is really hard in America especially at my age with school and everything >_<

Thanks, Kulee Sana Wa' intee Tai' ibba

In arabic that means "Good health to you this year."

And of course; Ramadan Mubarak!

  1. Sport is optional while fasting is obligatory... So it doesn't matter if you quit playing'...u r doing a good thing by fasting.!

  2. Are you in highschool?

If you were in highschool, you should know that sports look really good in college applications, but then again, your deen is more important. I'm also taking a sport, but I'm taking tennis, the coach wont let me run, because he thinks, I will pass out on him, because I'm fasting. So I dont have to run alot, I just do some stretches and practices. Anyway, its really your choice, if your sport takes alot of energy and work, then its good you dropped out.

    Asalamlykum and Ramadan Mubarack!

  3. Wiser to give up mohammad.

  4. well sister, there is no harm in doing what u have done. You would have gotten a bigger reward if u suffered n stood strong thru those conditions but 'course Allah wouldn't b mad at u for quitting sports. Instead u could use that time to pray n read the Qur'an.

  5. heyyyyyy!!! i live in america too and im on my school's basketball team. well i dont quit this sport wen ramadan comes because if i do ima have to catch up the next year on my team. i get dyhdrated sometimes but my coach is understanding and doesnt let me do alot of excersize on practices and on games he puts me on an easy position. i wash my face after practice and the games, it helps alot.

ive been on the basketball team for 3 years and ive done the same thing so im kinda used to it. but no allah would never be mad at u for that reason i mean ur doing it to keep fasting lol hope i helped!!

  6. lol...Allah wont be mad at u? its probably better as everyone has said for you to chill and focus more on islam during ramadan than worrying about playing sports. a lot of muslims can do it, some cant. but its way better for you to quit the sport than to break your fast for the sake of it. inshaAllah you will be rewarded for that sacrifice.

  7. its better to quit an optional thing such as sports than to quit an obligation as fasting, Inshallah when ramadan finishes you can rejoin, it all with in Allahs mercy

  8. when i was in high and junior school ,fating never stoped me from doing sport in school

but i used to do the hard training after the fetour

but the sport in school it was ok

but if you can t ,it s ok to stop the sport for 30 days, that s not gonna hurt you or put you behind

    it s ok

  9. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO i play football at my sport just drink 4 glasses of water in 5AM and your good

  10. lol my 14 year old brother is in the football team and he quit his sport for a month cause of the holy month of Ramadan and yes I think you made a great sacrifice and Allah will definitely reward you for that, my sister in law is pregnant she's due on sept 15 but she's still fasting n doesn't think it's important enough to not fast so yeah... But can't you go back after Ramadan? Doesn't your coach understand that you can't drink?

  11. Me and alot of my friends are fasting.

We arent Muslim but were doing it with respect for everyone why needs to.

Two of my four friends stopped fasting because of sports.

So i think you should gain respect by giving up something you love such as sports for your religion.
