Asalam alaikum brothers and sisters;

First of all, Ramadan Kareem to everyone!

I have a 3 months old baby at home, and I am breastfeeding. My husband told me I should not be fasting during Ramadan, as it may diminish my production of milk or might have too much lack of vitamins in the milk. So he suggest me to abstain from fasting, but to do my days later, when my baby is eating solid foods.

But I feel extremely guilty in a way. I wish I could be fasting with all other muslims. I will make Suhoor and Iftar lunch for my husband, but it's not going to feel the same.

How can I overcome this guilt feeling? Should I even be abstaining from fasting during this Ramadan? I already have 17 days to repeat from last year (being pregnant during Ramadan), and now the whole month. So that will be 47 days! What can I do?.....

Well, hope you will all enjoy the month of Ramadan! May your fasting be accepted incha'allah!

  1. no don't fast, it's true, what your husband says. don't feel guilty, God gave you the blessing of a baby, and the ability to feed the baby from your own body. you should be happy and proud that you are helping your baby grow healthy. also, you'll need as much energy as you can to take care of your baby as well, so you don't need to be tired while doing this, it will be very unhealthy for you.

  2. Sister you should not feel guilty over something that Allah has made permissible for you. Allah knows best after all. I know you may have a feeling your missing out but you would not want your little baby to miss out on vital vitamins and minerals or be left feeling hungry, would you? Of course you wouldn't. Take this time to enjoy bonding with your lovely baby and respect that Allah knows what is best for you.

    You do not have to make up days from being pregnant or breastfeeding. This because say you got pregnant again next year then breastfeed another 2 years how many days would you have to make up? Allah makes it easy for you sister. Just pay in charity by feeding a poor person for every day you have missed.

    Ramadan Mubarak to you and your family and your new baby too :)

  3. Allah (swt) inshAllah will reward you for your intention to fast Ramadan,,
