I know there is no such thing as fasting for a person in order to 'take' his fasts....but what I mean is fasting for another person as in you want them to accomplish something (ex: pass exams) so u fast for them??!

I know some aunts who do this but is there any islamic ruling on this?

Jazakallah in advance for anyones help.

Salaam :)

  1. Finally an excellent question.

Only Allah SWT will grant that mercy, but you can try :)

There is three large areas I will check, if you close the question thats fine I will email it to you or post it again.

    Al Quran

    Al Hadith

    Al Ryiad Al Salaheen

Those who cannot fast get it for free and or are exempt for many reasons given in fatwa. If you can't fast you don't have to but it is better for you! Al hamdoullah

That is also in the quran very clear!

You can't make Shahada for someone else

You can pay zakat for someone else

You can pray to Allah for someone

You can make Hajj for someone

so I dont' see why not with the fasting, but I really do believe its individual effort.  That is the only gate not revealed in heaven, its a present for those who fast. Al hamdoullah

If one is not fasted all their life, why should they deserve that? Even if you did fast for them.

Surely they will all have conflicting answers to one another even at the very high levels.. I will do some more research Al hamdoullah but I really think Syam is individual effort. Why fast for a dead person, they could have done it here themselves. Are we to grant them 2nd chance astugfarAllah we have no power in that matter, its all to Allah SWT Rahma alone! Khair inshAllah

And I don't say this much, but thanks, thanks so much for being bright and asking finally the right things :)

    Love Spiderman

I am nice guy, I just can't stand all this filth! Khair inshAllah

edit: skiing - Allah SWT doesn't deal in luck.. read the parts about casting arrows, surely we have no luck sense, its either your on the path of Allah SWT or your not.. simple as that.  There is only good fortune and karma...what is this luck your talking about sister? Surely I ask you to elevate yourself to a higher level of intelligence... Allah SWT does not deal in luck! Sorry!

  2. Im not exactly sure however u can't fast for another person who's alive, since each person has to go in his grave individually and is responsible for his own deeds only. Here the teacher is very strict and Knows everything, so u can't do the work for your best friend in the class or let him/her copy urs.

  3. Um........

I am now a bit suspicious because I do that alot of time, and my mom always did that for us and for my dad's job and other things like that.

    I do that too sometimes.

I don't *think* there is any obligation to it, cause as we pray for some one else...like pray for some one to be successful...

and when we fast we say the 'ajr'/ 'sawab' should go to the person's account, and to that it means we ask Allah to give the person a good luck!

I said I think, sorry but Islamically don't know!

  4. yes but only if that person is dead that answers comes from my dad

    happy ramadan

    masalama

  5. U can fast for a dead person but not in Ramadan .

  6. what your aunts do is Bidh (wrong, not Islamic) you fast and fast for one reason only to make Allah happy, if you do it, it can only be done for dead person.

Passing exam is not in Allah's hand, Allah gave you enough brians, thank Allah for that, and ask Allah to make your troubles easy, Just start with Bismillah, and finish with Allhumdulillah, and that's all you need. and if you aunts don't know, Allah loves it when you ask Allah yourself what you need or desire, rather than your aunts asking for the her kids, she should be guiding them to ask Allah, pray to Allah and InshAllah all will go well.

    Masalama, and Ramadan Mubarik

  7. You mean you are fasting for another person as in you want some one to accomplish something (ex: pass exams).  It is O.K. and it is Sunnah.  Better fast for 3 days for Allah with the above intention.  But, you cannot do it in Ramadan.

You can also fast for recovery from illness of your beloved ones.

Hazrath Ali (Raziyallahu Anhu) fasted for 3 days when Hassan/Hussain (R.A.) were ill.
