Rameez Raja says an Asian team will win the title – ICC World Cup 2011 news
Former Pakistan captain http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rameez-Raja-c2277 has said that the Asian teams have a very good chance of lifting the ICC World Cup 2011.
He said that earlier the Asian teams were not very good at performing in the high-profile events and handling the pressure but now the Subcontinent teams do not lack in these areas and are favourites to defeat the cricketing giants of any
other continent.
“There was a time when Asian teams didn't have the sort of quality that was needed to go all the way, especially in a major event like the World Cup. There was also a time when they couldn't really cope with pressure,” said Rameez while
talking to media. “But now, India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka do not lack in those areas. Even Bangladesh are an improved lot.”
Four teams from the Subcontinent are participating in the 14-team mega cricketing event that includes India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Pakistan. The first three are also jointly hosting the high-profile tournament while Pakistan was stripped
of the hosting rights duo to the volatile law and order situation in the country.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 are at performing well in the group games while Pakistan and Bangladesh are also steadily improving.
Looking at the performance of all the four teams in the ongoing World Cup, Rameez predicted that one of Asian teams would win the tournament as they have the home advantage as well.
“...the Asian teams have the home advantage. They will have a ball on their favourite hunting grounds in the knockout stages,” said the cricketer-turned-commentator.
Sri Lanka, Pakistan and India have almost confirmed their spots in the quarterfinals while the Bengali Tigers are also in contention of qualifying for the next stage after stunning England by 2 wickets on Friday.
Rameez said that Pakistan have performed well so far except for the Tuesday’s 110-run defeat to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754. He was hopeful that the Cornered Tigers would do well in the remaining part of the showpiece event if they got their act together.
