Ramires Feels the Pressure at Chelsea
Brazilian midfielder Ramires revealed that he felt more under pressure at Chelsea than he had felt at any other club in his entire career. Chelsea won their first ever double; Premier League and FA Cup, last season under Carlo Ancelotti
and the Blues are determined to repeat their success.
Ramires was one of two signings that Ancelotti brought to Stamford Bridge in the summer transfer window, the Italian manager signed him from Benfica after being impressed by the midfielder. However, the player has admitted that the English
Premier League is tougher than he had expected it to be.
The 23 year old midfielder admitted that the Premier League was a step up from what he had gotten used to at the Portuguese league and Cruzeiro before that. He said he felt that his previous clubs, Benfica and Cruzeiro presented a challenge,
but none as tough as the London club.
He said in a statement, “At Cruzeiro and Benfica, there was also huge pressure to get good results. The difference at Chelsea is that the level of visibility is so much greater. That means you're singled out more when you play badly and
there's more hype when you play well.”
Some foreign players spend their entire careers trying to adapt to the speed and style of the English Premier League, but Ramires strongly believes he is not one of those players. The Brazilian was confident that he had already fit in
nicely with the Blues.
He said, “As well as being a player who tries to start moves when I have the ball, I've always liked a tackle, so that's why I'm not finding it very hard to adapt. I'm already getting used to the speed of the game over here. All I need
to do now is to keep working hard to earn my spot in the side and help the team stay as successful as they've been in recent years.”
With the Blue’s list of injured players growing and with the absence of notable midfielders like Frank Lampard and former Liverpool player Yossi Benayoun, Ramires got his chance to play in the starting 11 sooner than he had expected.
He said that he was looking forward to the Blues star midfielder Lampard returning, but admitted that he was glad at the opportunity that he had gotten. He said that the position he was currently playing in for the Blues was the same position
he played for his country.
He added, “Since then, I've played a few times as a box-to-box midfielder, which is my original position and the same one where Mano Menezes has been using me for the national team. But, to be honest, it's not hard for me to play anywhere
in midfield.”
In the end, the young Brazilian said that despite having a favourite position in midfield, he’d play wherever manager Ancelotti wanted him to. Ramires said that he would try his best to help Chelsea achieve their goals and win more silverware
like they had in recent years.
