Ramirez agrees to four-year extension with the White Sox
Things can’t get any better than they are for the Chicago White Sox. The team that has been pushing its budget this season with a commitment of over $120 million, has gone on to sign Alexei Ramirez to an extended four-year deal. The two parties agreed to
terms recently and Chicago will be serious contenders once the regular league season kicks off in April.
The Chicago White Sox have one of the best shortstop players in Alexei Ramirez. The player came into the side from Cuba in 2008, and in 2010 he proved his worth to the club and the league, as he averaged .282 with the bat and picked up the Louisville Slugger
Award for his offensive play in the shortstop position.
The four-year deal ties Alexei to a $32.5 million contract which will be paid over the following years in various allocations. In 2012, Ramirez will earn $5 million. In 2013, he will avail $7 million. In 2014, Alexei will receive $9.5 million and in 2015,
he will earn $10 million. A club option is also in place that could see Ramirez play for $10 million in 2016. At the moment though, Ramirez is on a contract worth $2.75 for 2011. Alexei was able to talk to fans and described his situation with the club and
the league.
Ramirez said, "I keep adjusting my game and upping my game, season after season, working on how people have adjusted to me. Ever since Jaime told me I had four years with the White Sox (after coming over from Cuba), I set my sights on getting better every
day and after every game.”
Ramirez also expressed his desire to finish his career with the White Sox. He said, “I don't expect to win awards or different accolades. I just want to play better every season. I'm so happy with where I'm at and what I've done so far. If I'm lucky enough
and can play my entire career here, it's something I would love to do."
There is a lot of support within the squad to boost the shortstop for the coming season, and if he plays his cards right, the Chicago White Sox might go through to the playoffs this season.
