Ramiz Raja lashes out at ‘League Cricket’ – Cricket News Update
T20, the shorter format of the game, found a harsh critic in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 captain, and a well known cricket commentator.  He lashed out at the impact of league cricket on the sport.
Raja didn’t mince his words while sharing his views about the prevalent priorities of international cricketers at both national and domestic level, “most players around the world are treating their selection for international matches as a springboard to
land up in the lap of a franchisee,” said Raja.
The recent episode of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/KP-Pietersen-c1806 sparked a new controversy in the cricketing world when he suddenly resigned from One Day Internationals to further his Test and T20 career. The decision drew severe criticism from all corners while surprising many greats
who think that his hanging the gloves from ODIs was uncalled-for and could prove to be a damaging development for world cricket.
Last year Malinga had also resigned from Test cricket when he was called for the national camp set up for a Test series and instead, decided to stay with his franchise in the Indian Premier League (IPL).  Raja, a senior cricket commentator explained this
syndrome by citing the example of West Indies team.
“Read the signs. The http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 players in individual capacity at the IPL ruled the format. Try to gather them under the West Indies flag and you get a flat, anemic unit — as if forced to take the field. In fact, as a national team they are so unenthusiastic
about playing their favourite T20 format that they are languishing below http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 rankings,” he said.
He also blamed the national boards for not exposing their players to good management and attractive financial opportunities but rather enforce a dictatorial set-up, which he describes as a master-slave relationship.  He also referred to an embarrassing situation
which arose out of a classic case of mismanagement when Sri Lankan cricket management couldn’t pay its players for almost 8 months and the national team’s performances nose-dived during that period, along with their morale.
He suggested that all the cricket boards should sit down and come up with a plan, which not only looks after their material needs but also breeds a sense of nationalism in them to bring them back from the lure and charm of an ever-expanding league cricket.
