Senior West Indian batsman, Ramnaresh Sarwan, has lashed out at Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) for ignoring him for the upcoming domestic Twenty20 championship.
The high-voltage tournament is set to be played from January 9 to January 22, 2012 and while announcing the 14-memeber squad for the big battle, the Guyana selectors unexpectedly hurled Sarwan out of his home side.
According to the batsman, he was told that his injury issues prompted the selection panel to rule him out of the native crew.
Sarwan, on the other hand, termed selectors’ decision as ‘total c**p’ and said that he has fully recovered from his injury problems and the authorities should have looked at his fitness status before making any move.
“I was made to understand via a media release by the GCB dated the 6th December 2011 that my non-selection for the upcoming T20 tournament was based on my injury that I have had over the past four months and they (selectors) are not sure about my injury
status,” said Sarwan.
The 31-year-old batsman is out of action since June 2011 when he played his last One Day International (ODI) against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750. He has participated in 48 T20 matches so far, scoring 872 runs at an average of 21.80. Sarwan has been an integral part of Guyana’s
setup over the last many years and therefore, his exclusion from the side was a huge surprise for the cricketing circles within http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760.
Sarwan is intended to resolve the controversy as soon as possible, saying that he had already informed the Guyana management about his availability for the domestic competition.
“I had spoken to the president of the board (Ramsey Ali) and informed him about the status of my injury, I had also spoken to the chairman of selectors Mr Reyon Griffith and so from that point of view they were well informed,” added the classy right-hander
who has served his national side in 87 Tests and 173 one-dayers.
The forthcoming T20 championship will be a good opportunity for Sarwan to gain his batting form and subsequently urge the selectors to consider him for the national obligations.
