Ramon Santiago and Bruce Rondon confident ahead of 2013 Spring Training – MLB News
According to a leading sports website, two Tigers’ Ramon Santiago and Bruce Rondon will be feeling very confident ahead of 2013 Spring Training. Based on their performances in the Winter Ball, Santiago and Rondon would join the camp with extra confidence, the source further claimed.
Santiago has looked in top form this Winter Ball. Over the last few years, he has shown the baseball world that he has the ability to hit home runs even against the best pitchers in the Major League Baseball. Sadly, he has not been able to fulfil his immense potential until now, thanks to inconsistency and poor luck.
However, it seems the luck is working in his favour right now. As of Wednesday evening, he was hitting .338 with 18 runs and nine RBI’s in 18 games for a local baseball team in Dominican Republic.
"Obviously Rondon has had a very good winter, closing out games there for Magallanes," Tigers assistant general manager Al Avila said Thursday. "Ramon Santiago is having a good winter. Those are two big ones, two guys that are on the roster."Rondon, on the other hand, will also be very pleased with what he has been able to do on the mound this winter. The prospect, who is expected to start as a closer in the next season, is 4- 1 with eight saves and 17 strikeouts in 15 games for a Magallanes in the Venezuelan League. So far, he has allowed just eight earned runs with five coming in an unfortunate fashion in one inning in November.
Santiago had a forgettable time on the plate for the Tigers in 2012 as he managed to hit just .206 in 93 games. The 33 year old will take a lot of confidence from his winter performances to turn things around in the next regular season. Rondon will also have an excellent opportunity to cement his place on the Tigers’ big league roster. There is no denying the fact he is a rare talent but can he convert his talent into consistency is the question he must answer to shut his critics forever.
