Rampaging Caroline Hedwall bags her fourth title at the Hero Women’s Indian Open on LET

Calendar year on the Ladies European Tour might have been coming to an end, rookie Caroline Hedwall’s rampage on the tour, seems to go on unabated for the moment. Already a three-time winner on the tour on her debut year, Hedwall bagged her fourth title
of the season, the Hero Women’s Indian Open at DLF Golf and Country Club in Gurgaon, New Delhi, confirming her place as the Player of the Year as well as the Rookie of the Year on the LET. She pulled in five birdies and dropped two shots in the final 18-hole
stretch to win the title by two shots better than the nearest competitor, Thailand’s Pornanong Phatlum. Hedwall posted an aggregate of 12-under, 204.
“It gives me a lot of self confidence. It’s been a great week and I’m very excited about this win,” she said. “I just tried to focus on myself and try to play the same game I’ve played for the last few days. I did manage to stay patient, which was my goal
for the day.”
Being the overnight leader, Hedwall had a one shot lead going into the final round but was easily overtaken by Pornanong  and Swede Linda Wessberg when both players birdied their opening holes. Pornanong grabbed the lead when Hedwall fell for a bogey on
the fifth but quickly regained composure to churn out four straight birdies from the seventh hole to move three shots ahead. While the Thai player fell for a bogey on the 16th, Hedwall made the rest of the journey comfortably to the clubhouse.
“I think because I led by three I just tried to stay cool and I was pretty cool,” Hedwall said. “I had to chunk it in the water to miss the win, but I know I don’t do that from 90 yards.”
Becky Morgan finished for an outright third, four shots behind the leader while South African Lee-Anne Pace and Wessberg finished for joint fourth trailing the leader by five shots. While Thailand’s Nontaya Srisawang and first round co-leader Pernilla Lindberg
of Sweden finished seven shots behind the lead. Lindberg, who carded a stunning round of 66 on the first day, fell for disastrous rounds of 74 and 71, losing her grasp on the title.
Formidable Hedwall will now be heading to Dubai for the season-ending Omega Dubai Ladies Masters, which will effectively conclude a whirlwind season on the LET. A win in Dubai will take Hedwall all the way to the top of the Henderson Money List, overtaking
Melissa Reid of England but she will not be able to overtake the Money Leader Ai Miyazato.
The 22-year-old Swede will be accompanied by her mother Yvonne who has been carrying her bag for a while. Hedwall was also part of the Solheim Cup European Team and is now the most destructive force on the tour for the moment.
