Rampant Stade Rennais go for six against Les Lionceaux – Ligue 1 news
Stade Rennais coach Frederic Antonetti couldn’t help but smile at the end of the final whistle after a flurry of goals saw his side beat FC Sochaux 6-2 at the Stade Auguste Bonal.
Stade Rennais once again showed their new-found goalscoring prowess when they ran rampant over Les Lionceaux in the Week 7 of the Ligue 1 action. Colombian striker Victor http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Hugo-c16384 Montano scored two goals for the Brittany side. With the win, Rennais are in second place and just two points behind league leaders Montpellier.
Four goals in the second half handed Rennais a well deserved and famous win over Sochaux after the two sides were level at 2-2 at half-time. After already putting five goals past Dijon earlier this season, Antonetti’s men once again showed their attacking powers.
For Rennais, Jean-Armel Kana-Biyik, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Youssouf-Hadji-c37599, Julien Feret and Jires Kembo-Ekoko scored a goal a piece while Montano scored a brace to take his goal tally to four goals so far this season. The win was also redemption for Rennais after the Brittany side lost 5-1 to Sochaux in the corresponding fixture of the 2010/2011 campaign.
Sochaux had also stolen fifth place from Antonetti’s side in the last weeks of the last season but the recent win suggest that the side from Brittany could go even higher up the standings as the season wears on.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Mathieu-Peybernes-c24689. Colombian international stepped up to take the spot kick and coolly converted it to give Rennais the lead.
However, thanks to Algerian international http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ryad-Boudebouz-c31970, Sochaux equalised. The young midfielder’s pass found Butin who scored his second goal in as many home games to bring the home team level.
Richert was once again called upon to deny Montano but Rennais restored their lead when Kana-Biyik scored from a Julien Feret free-kick minutes before half-time. However, Rennais’ joy was short-lived as Butin who had earlier equalised, sent in a cross to Maiga who headed the ball home to level the game once again.
Maiga along with Kevin Anin was dropped from the team that drew against Lille at the weekend after the duo failed to report for a training session. The goal was the perfect way for Maiga to mark his return to the first-team.
The second half turned out to be a totally different story altogether. Feret was a constant threat for the Sochaux defence in the first half and the Frenchman volleyed from point-blank range to restore Rennais’ lead.
Maiga got a chance to equalise for Sochaux but goalkeeper Benoit Costil denied the powerful striker and kept his side’s lead intact.
Rennais won another penalty and Peybernes was once again the culprit after he brought down Feret. Youssouf Hadji was given the task to extend his side’s lead and the Moroccan made no mistake.
However, there were still more to come as Montano scored his second goal of the game to make the score 5-2. Sochaux’s defensive frailties were once again exposed when substitute Kembo-Ekoko’s excellent lob over Richert summed up a great outing for the visitors.
