Rampant filly, Glamalert after winning her maiden special weight race has turned out to be a major player for the sophomore season next year
The 2-year-old Neil Howard owned filly, Glamalert, was unsuccessful when she was asked to break her maiden at first asking at Fair Grounds race course on 1 December, 2011, at about 1 mile and 70 yards on dirt course under jockey Corey Lanerie.
The Cheyenne Stables owned filly finished just off the board in fourth when attempting to go all out in the deep stretch but couldn’t go the distance as she weakened in the final furlong and gave way badly to Lady Candidate, who pounced on the open space
and bolted to win the race.
Here Music and Uptown Bertie dueled for the second place finish, but Here Music showed enough legs to out finish Uptown Bertie for second place as Lady Candidate covered the 1 mile 70 yard distance in 1 minute and 44.10 seconds.
The daughter of Vindication, out of mare Glasgow’s Gold by Seeking the Gold, Glamalert was asked to do it again at the same venue and at the same track, but it was a different ball game altogether this time around as she asserted herself on the field like
a veteran and puffed her chest to look a little bigger than the rest of the juvenile fillies.
Glamalert broke alertly out of her post position under jockey Brian Hernandez Jt., as she was allowed to be settled just off the pace, but responded in emphatic style when set down for the drive as she broke her maiden convincingly at second asking by 5
¼ lengths at the Crescent City oval on 22 December, 2011.
The race was scheduled on grass to begin with but got shifted to the sloppy main track, to run over a distance of a mile and 70 yards.
Glamalert has stamped herself as the main contender and the one to watch out for in the Fair Ground’s upcoming sophomore filly season in 2012.
The Fair Ground’s sophomore filly season will kick off with the $125,000 Silverbulletday Stakes on 21 January, 2011, on Road to the Derby Kickoff Day and it will conclude on 31 March, 2011, with the Grade 2 Fair Grounds Oaks on Fair Grounds Oaks Day.
