Ramunas Navardauskas and Rasa Leleivyte win 2011 Lithuanian Road Championships
Garmin-Cervelo team’s Ramunas Navardauskas showed his tremendous performance and won 2011 Lithuanian Championships in Alytus.
The 23-year-old Lithuanian racing cyclist took a total of 4 hours, 39 minutes and 36 seconds to cover the distance.
Recently, Ramunas took the second place in first stage of Tirreno-Adriatico. He also grabbed the first place in Liege-Bastogne-Liege Espoirs and took the eighth place in Paris-Roubaix Espoirs in 2010.
Gediminas Bagdonas of the An Post Sean Kelly team previously took the first place in Lithuania Championship in 2007, but now he grabbed the runner's-up spot with a difference of 1 minute and 3 seconds.
Aidis Kruopis of the Landbouwkrediet tried his best to catch the two leading cyclists, but was unable to maintain his pace and grabbed the third place.
A total of 21 cyclists took part in the race and seven cyclists which include Justas Klimavicius (Alytaus SRC), Tomas Mice (Stimul Plius), Kornelijus Buoze (Klaipedos M. SC) and Arunas Gliaudelis (Top team) were disqualified from the race.
A group of five cyclists made their first breakaway which include Ramunas Navardauskas, Bagdonas, Aidis Kruopis (Landbouwkrediet), Marius Bernatonis (Atlas Personal Jakroo) and Evaldas Siskevicius (Velo club La Pomme Marocille).
All of them working together and built a lead of few seconds. Aidis Kruopis and Marius Bernatonis attacked and build an advantage over the others, but after few kilometres to go, both of them were caught behind the peloton. Bagdonas and Navardauskas worked
together, however Ramunas increased his pace and took the victory ahead of other cyclists.
In the women category, Vilniaus "Sietyno" SM- Vaiano Tepso Solaristech team’s Rasa Leleivyte won the 2011 Lithuanian Road Championship.
The 22-year-old Rasa took a total of 3 hours, 6 minutes to cover the distance of race, while Inga Cilvinaite of Diadora-Pasta-Zara was in second place with the same timing of Rasa.
Ausrine Trebaite of the Panevezio KKSC,DSK "Fortuna" was in good form and grabbed the third place. Aleksandra Sosenko tried his best to catch the group of four cyclists, but he failed and grabbed the fifth place with a difference of 35 seconds.
Vilija Sereikaite (Panevežio KKSC-SK"El-Eko sport"), Roberta Barzdaite (Panevežio KKSC,DSK "Fortuna") and Urte Juodvalkyte (Vilniaus "Sietyno"SM- VAIANO TEPSO SOLARISTECH) were in eighth, ninth and tenth places, respectively.
A group of three cyclists made their first breakaway which included Rasa Leleivyte, Inga Cilvinaite and Ausrine Trebait. All of them gained a lead of few seconds, but Rasa maintained her pace and took the victory.
