  1. I'm not sure.

    Sorry.

  2. The reson it says that is because tums is almost pure calcium and so is the meds. Is you only took one then it will be fine.

    good luck

  3. i would think that it wouldn't matter as long as you are getting the relief that you need until you get your script filled

  4. Just don't take more.  I believe they are talking about taking on a regular basis - not just a one time dose.  FYI - I quit taking all that junk.  I drink less soda, eat less and follow the directions on the box of baking soda like my Grandpa used to.  It is a very effective antacid.

  5. I'm not exactly sure what you read, but I know you can have to much calcium, and calcium in supplement form is usually harder to digest than milk, cheese, etc and can remain in your body and get into your blood.

High excess calcium levels are associated with cancer.

I read this when I was researching vitamin C. This is why you should avoid 'Ester-C' and similar products.

Just one time should be fine. Sodium Bicarbonate[baking soda] is an antacid as well. It has dosage directions of the box.

I'll edit if I can find the source.

EDIT - This is not the same information I read, but it has a simple explanation.

  6. If you have heartburn, you have heartburn and theres nothing like popping a few tums to get that relief.  I was diagnosed with Grade 1 GERD (Gastro-Esophageal-Reflux-Disease) and a Hiatal hernia when I was 22 years old.  I was having heartburn SO bad that I was going through a 500 count bottle of TUMS in less than a month!!  I finally went to the doc and had an endoscopy and was diagnosed.  Since then, Ive been on Prevacid.

Occasionally I'll pop a TUMS for quicker relief (when I forget my Prevacid or hadnt taken it that day) and it helps.

If you read an article that says you arent suposed to take calcium supplements, then thats like asking you to stop drinking milk.  Or eating much of anything period with calcium in it.  Calcium is in almost everything we eat and drink....

I seriously think that you will be okay with taking TUMS to relieve your heartburn.  If you are really that concerned, look up your local hospital in the phone book and call the nurse help line (should be a 1800 number) and it will hook you directly with an RN or a PA or even a doc and they can answer your question for free (without a visit) to whether or not it was okay to take TUMS.

But like I said, I seriously think that you'll be okay since you took the TUMS.
