Question:

Ran out of peridex? jaw wired

Hi I have my jaw wired.

I ran out of peridex.

What can i use for today to replace that?

regular mouthwash?

What i did was i rinsed out my mouth with toothpaste foam. i don't know if that really helps but worth a try

any advice?

  1. Peridex is a medicated mouth rinse... so really nothing will take the place of it. However, if you are going just one day, you could use warm salt water. Peridex is used to promote healing. The warm salt water will help keep things clean which will promote healing.

    Sorry about your jaw... Milk shakes are your friend. :)


  2. I was allergic to Peridex after my dental implant surgery. My whole mouth, cheeks - gums - tongue was a scaled mess. Ouch! They told me to use salt water. So put a tsp salt in warm water and rinse with this. It really helps heal. They told me it would be ok not to use the Peridex.  But call the Doctor and get a new prescription for tomorrow if the Doctor feels you need this.

    For the future. Do you have a water pik? It really helps keep the mouth very clean if you mix it with half and half water vs crest mouthwash (no alcohol) helps keep the wires clean. Just do not put the water pressure up too high.
