Rana Naved-ul-Hasan, the discarded Pakistani all-rounder, has launched a cricket academy for the youngsters in his hometown Sheikhupura, a central city of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Punjab-c833, and expressed that the purpose of this initiative is to help the underprivileged sportsmen.
The 34-year-old is one of the most senior players in the country's domestic cricket, having made his first-class debut in 1995-96. After consistent performances at the national level, the all-rounder got an opportunity to prove his worth at the world-stage
in 2003.
The Sheikhupura-born cricketer has so far played nine Tests, 74 One Day Internationals and four T20s for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sialkot-c842 Stallions and Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) in domestic
cricket and is still available for national team’s selection.
Naved expressed that unlike some of the other academies in the country, he does not intend to make it a profit-making activity, and instead wishes to help the poor boys of the city and the other surrounding areas.
“I want all of the cricketing talent of Sheikhupura to be given a chance at my academy. My academy is open to all those boys who want to learn the game,” the all-rounder said.
The out of favour cricketer, who understands the boons and the banes of the national structure, said that it is not easy for players to come through the ranks until or unless they belong to well-off families.
The all-rounder dreams of paving the way for young and upcoming cricketers and hopes that the new generation does not face the same hurdles he did in his early days.
Naved expressed, “It happens too often that a boy from a wealthy family will get selected for a place at an academy ahead of a boy who is a better cricketer but comes from a poor family. I’ve been there, I know the system, I know what difficulties I faced
and I know what sacrifices my family had to make for me to get into cricket.”
Sheikhupura has already produced some quality cricketers like http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohammad-Asif-c1993 and Naved himself.
