Rana Naved’s appeal adjourned yet again - PCB
Rana Naved-ul-Hasan has finally met Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 in 2009. The bowler's case was finally heard after several unsuccessful
attempts to meet the chairman. After the meeting, Naved said, “Friday’s meeting was good and I hope to get good news soon.”
Naved alongside former Pakistani skipper Younis Khan and veteran batsman Mohammad Yousuf were all punished and slapped with bans and fined by the PCB on their arrival from Australia last year. Younis and Naved had later met the PCB Chairperson in a bid to
get a reprieve from those fines and had urged the board to revoke their bans as well. On the other hand, Yousuf refused to appeal and retired from international cricket till he was recalled into the national team in the recently concluded tour of England.
However, Naved’s initial fine of Rs. 2 million was later reduced.
Meanwhile, Naved desperation is increasing by the day as his tribunal has asked the fast bowler to meet Chairman Butt before they go ahead with the proceedings. Although Naved has missed international cricket for a long time, the PCB have allowed the bowler
to play county cricket in England. Till date, his tribunal hearing has being adjourned on numerous occasions, which is headed by retired Justice http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Irfan-c64444 Qadir. The new date will now be announced on the 25th of September, which was previously supposed
to be a hearing date.
Naved said, “I have lot of cricket left in me and I am desperate to play for Pakistan. It was disappointing to see http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 lose on the England tour where I could have been successful because of my experience in county cricket”.
On the contrary, PCB’s legal adviser Talib Rizvi believed, “The PCB took actions against the players to give them a lesson that they are not bigger than the game”, also adding, “Since all the players have apologised, the PCB’s objective is achieved and you
will see a difference in their discipline in the future.”
Naved, who was born in 1978 in Sheikhupura, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 in Jamshedpur with 6 for 27.
Naved is also a useful lower order batsman, keeping in mind his 3 first-class centuries with the ability to slog in the latter part of an innings. His credentials in the 50 over format of cricket make him as ideal candidate for the upcoming ICC World Cup 2010.
Unlike batsmen in international cricket, fast bowlers do not last for that long. At the age of 32, one might wonder how long will this fast bowler remain fit enough to open the bowling for Pakistan. On the other hand, the question arises as to why the PCB
has taken so much time in deciding Naved’s fate. Is the PCB done with the cricket that Naved had to offer?
Nevertheless, whatever may be the reason for these delays, the PCB needs to come out with one clear opinion regarding the player. It seems as if the PCB is followed a dual policy - on one end, the management has been extremely kind to Shoaib Malik, Mohammad
Yousuf and Kamran Akmal following the Australian Tour but is following a different policy in Naved’s case. Whatever the final verdict is, the board is expected to ensure that unlike in the past, it shouldn’t waste yet another talent based on internal politics
and mismanagement.
