Randall Hutchison, Chad Proehl, Mathias Gronberg and John Hurley qualify for John Deere Classic
Four players, Randall Hutchison, Chad Proehl, Mathias Gronberg and John Hurley have qualified for this week’s John Deere Classic through an open qualifier at Pinnacle Country Club, held on Monday, July 9, 2012.
Hutchison looked really happy after making it to a PGA Tour event for the second time in his career. In 2009, he made his first appearance at the Buick Open.
Therefore, he will be stepping on to TPC Deere Run for the first time in his career. He looks promising while heading to the official tournament, scheduled to start from July 12, 2012.
On the other hand, Gronberg has experience in playing the pre-British Open tournament. He was a part of the field in 2010 and missed the cut. This year, he is confident to make it to the final two days of the event.
Proehl has the experience of playing the tournament three times in his life. However, he failed to make the cut twice — in 2008 and 2011.
“It’s not a good feeling on the other side, knowing that you almost made it,” Proehl said.
Both Hutchison and Gronberg were playing in the final group of the day and outshined their opponents with eight-under par and seven-under par score, respectively.
Hurley and Proehl had the third best scores of the day with a six-under par 66 each. Two players were tied with a five-under par score and 10 at four-under par.
“That’s just the nature of the game,” said Hutchison, who is from Traverse City, Mich. “You just try and go as low as you can for the most part, unfortunately you knock some guys out doing that. I’ve been in that situation before. That’s just the way it
goes”.
According to the golf commentators, all these players have a great chance of earning a handsome amount of money because of the lack of top-ranked players participating in the event.
Steve Stricker is the highest ranked player in the field and the current defending champion in Illinois. However, six PGA Tour winners of the current season will also be showcasing their skills this week.
