Question:

Random Anovulatory Cycle While TTC?

My husband and I are TTC baby #2. We got pregnant very easily with our son 20 months ago. I have always had very regular cycles and always thought I was ovulating..... and then came this month's cycle. I had regular periods on 6/14 and 7/11 and then started bleeding again on 7/29 (period wasn't due until 8/8). My doctor said it is probably a transient anovulatory cycle and nothing to worry about unless it continues to happen.

Has anyone else ever experienced this before - a random Anovulatory Cycle - and then gone on to continue having regular periods and able to conceive shortly thereafter?

  1. I didn't experience that but have read that most women have 2 anovulatory cycles/year.

  2. Hey there,

Yes! It's totally normal. I was always really regular, and used OPK's and temps to track ovulation. I always ovulated within the same 2 days each cycle. Then one time, it simply didn't happen! I was freaked out. Was there something wrong with me? I researched and asked my doc a load of questions and came to the conclusion that it's totally normal to have 1 cycle where you don't ovulate over 1-2 years. If it happens more than twice in a year, then I might look into it. But chances are that you just fine, and will ovulate like clockwork next cycle.

My guess is that I have 1 of these random anovulatory cycles about once every 15 months or so. And that it has no lasting reflection on fertility. My best guess about you is that you'll be able to try again next month (and every month after).

    Good luck!!
