Random hanging and unit shutdown typically after.... My SONY VAIO PCG-FXA49 occasionally randomly

My SONY VAIO PCG-FXA49 occasionally randomly hangs or shuts down typically after few hours (2-12 Hrs) of operation. The fan seems to be working normally as it can be heard switching on and off every couple of minutes.
