Random or not-yet-explained?

Are interactions that we now consider to be random truly random or have we not yet determined the pattern (due to elements going undetected, imprecise measurements, etc.)?

  1. It certainly seems random.  And not just in the trivial sense that there might be underlying hidden variables that we don't know about that explain the randomness.  If there are such variables, they have to communicate with each other faster than the speed of light, which would be very problematic.  So most interpretations of quantum mechanics posit that god really and truly does roll dice.

  2. Simply because you just don't have all the data so the outcome appears to be random.

  3. I don't know
