Randy Couture considering retirement from fighting

Randy Couture has announced that after one of the most storied careers in mixed martial arts history, he is considering giving the sport up. He spoke to Fighters Only magazine  and stated
“it’s probably time to move on” from his career in MMA.  Couture has three fights remaining on the contract he signed with Ultimate Fighting Championship in August 2009.
The 47-year-old Couture said “I’m looking to diversify, I would like to try a little bit of everything, we’ll see. It’s a fickle business, so you never know what’s going to happen.”
Couture recently starred in “The Expendables,” a film that has grossed more than $250 million worldwide since its release in August of this year. He will begin filming the sequel to that
film in March of 2011.
No one could blame the UFC Hall of Fame member for thinking about retiring. Couture began his mixed martial arts career in 1997 at UFC 13. His victory during the four-man heavyweight tournament
on that fight card was the launching point for his career.
During his time battling in MMA, Couture has compiled a record of 19-10 to go along with a lengthy list of titles and accomplishments. Couture has been the UFC heavyweight champion three
times, the UFC light heavyweight champion two times as well as the interim UFC light heavyweight champion.
In addition to his membership in the UFC Hall of Fame, his list of accolades include; 15 UFC championship fights, first fighter to hold a title in two weight classes, and oldest fighter
to hold a UFC title (43 years old).
Reflecting on his career, Couture said, “I have had my wars, done my thing. I’ve been having fun, I can still fight, but I am not sure I want to make another run at the title or anything
like that.”
Couture’s last fight was in August of this year. He defeated professional boxer James Toney via an arm triangle choke in the first round of their bout. If he retires from fighting in the
cage, he'll likely still be involved in the MMA world through his Las Vegas training centre, Xtreme Couture.
