Randy Lew victorious at 2011 Asia Pacific Poker Tour Macau Main Event – Poker News
On the trilling fourth day of the event, Randy Lew swept away the other 14 contestants to claim the 2011 Pokerstars.net Asia Pacific Poker Tour (APPT) Macau Main Event on Sunday night. The Canadian finished the final table with
chip counts of 750,000, not the highest one but yet claiming the title in the end and winning HKD$ 3,772,000.
Sangeeth Mohan was the chip leader on the final day but couldn’t get his hands on the glorious trophy by the end of the day. Out of the fifteen players showing up on the last day, Sparrow Cheung was the first one to be eliminated,
followed by Josh Barrett, Tsugunari Toma, Daoxing Chen and Baton Fung in the respective order. Remaining 10 players went through the final table bubble, with nine of them qualifying to sit on the official APPT final table.
The chip leader at the start of the day, Mohan, failed to make it to the final table and was eliminated by Kai Yat Fam in the final table bubble.
Despite of having most final-table experiences among all the others, David Steicke, was the first one to be dismissed from the final APPT table. He got last of his money in with seven of diamonds and four of hearts up his sleeves
but he was outdone by Daniel Nordstrom’s ‘Pocket Rockets’, aces\ of spades and ace of diamonds in the end, as Seicke failed to pair up any of his cards with the community ones.
Zheng Tai Tan was the next one to go in the eighth place, with his pocket deuces crushed by Jeff Rossiter’s pocket eights. A five of diamonds, five of clubs, three of diamonds, ten of diamonds and nine of diamonds on the board
was sufficient for Rossiter to hit the rail, dumping Tan out of the competition.
Next dismissal was of Nordstrom’s, eliminated by Rossiter once again, at the seventh place, quickly followed by Fam at the hands of the eventual champion, Lew. Fifth and fourth spot exits were taken by Zuo Wang and Fabian Spielmann
respectively, leaving only three-handed play.
Rossiter finally got himself eliminated at the hands of Jimmy Pan, leaving the final battle to only two men. Lew was in the lead with nine million chips to his opponents 8.25 million at the start of the heads-up play but Pan doubled
up shortly afterwards to break into lead at 10 million to seven million. The tussle between the two finalists kept neck-to-neck for a while before Lew went in for the decisive hand.
Both players went all-in on queen of hearts, ten of spades and eight of spades flop. Lew got the delight of his life by having queen of hearts and ten of clubs in his hand, up against king of hearts and queen of spades of Pan on
the final hand of the event. A five of clubs came on the turn, leaving Pan hopeful of getting a king on the river, but it was jack of clubs which left Lew with the greatest win of his career and the champion at the 2011 Macau Main Event.
