Randy Moss could end up back with the Patriots
Randy Moss lasted just over a month in his second stint with the Minnesota Vikings after the team decided to cut the wide receiver on Monday.
A month after the Vikings gave New England a third round draft pick for Moss, the 33-year-old was placed on waivers.
"This decision was made based on what we thought was in the best interests of the Minnesota Vikings, both in the short and long term. We wish Randy the best as he moves forward in his career,” Vikings head coach Brad Childress said.
With Moss now on waivers teams in the NFL can put in a claim for the star and pick up his contract, which has $3.888 million left on it. The team with the worst record can claim first – in this case the Buffalo Bills – and then the second worst team, and so on and so on.
According to a report by Adam Schefter on ESPN.com the Dallas Cowboys, Washington Redskins, Chicago Bears, St. Louis Rams, Miami Dolphins, Oakland Raiders, Kansas City Chiefs, Seattle Seahawks, New York Jets are all interested in Moss.
But could the Patriots be the team to claim Moss? Despite having the best record in the NFL if their former player decides to he wants to return to the team where he broke the league record for receiving touchdowns in a season conceivably he could return. But would they take him back?
Details about Moss’ exit from New England are still sparse. There were reports that he had a falling out with Tom Brady and that he was a disruptive influence in the dressing room. But one thing is for sure, Randy Moss can still play football.
Publically Moss has had nothing but good words for the Patriots franchise and coach Bill Belichick and with Moss seemingly admiring both franchise and coach he might just want to come back.
If he doesn’t get picked up on waivers the Vikings will have to pay Moss the $3.888million he is still owed. He will then be able to sign with any team he chooses for $450,000.
Should the Patriots bring Moss back they could put out a team that includes Wes Welker, Deion Branch, Randy Moss and rookie tight end Aaron Hernandez, a front line that would give quarterback Tom Brady more than enough targets to chose from.
