Randy Wittman lashes out at team after poor performance so far in the season – NBA News
The Washington Wizards have been by far, the worst team of the NBA so far this season. The Wizards are currently 0-9, the only team in the league that is yet to win a game this season. On top of that, they have the worst offence
in the league this season at this point, averaging 90.9 points per 100 possessions which is lower than the historically bad Charlotte Bobcats from last season that finished with the worst win-loss record in NBA history. The Wizards need consistency in their
offence and someone who can score, but with the absence of team leader John Wall as well as Nene, they are finding it difficult to score. And team Head Coach Randy Wittman expressed his frustrations with the team during an after game press conference after
the Wizards lost to the Indiana Pacers on Monday night.
“I’m looking down the whole roster, and if I had a cell phone I’d be calling the waiver wire trying to find another body. It’s just so inconsistent top to bottom. I’d love to have an eight or nine-man rotation. And I’m playing
12 and 13 [players] every night. You can’t do that in an NBA game. You have to develop a [starting] group and a group that comes in. We were turning down shots to take worse shots. I know somebody in here is going to ask me, ‘Why do they do that?’ I don’t
know,” said a demoralized Wittman.
The Wizards are having difficulty finding a player who can give them consistency on the offence, and are shooting poorly from the field. So far in the season, they are shooting 19.4 perfect from 16 feet and beyond, which shows
that they do not have a bankable shooter in the team. Although they have been badly hurt by the loss of Wall who was their main scorer and leader, Wall is not a spot up shooter and relies more on driving into the paint. Hence, if the rest of the team does
not step up to the challenge, the Wizards one dimensional offence centred on Wall will be very easy to predict and stop. Veterans like Emeka Okafor and Trevor Ariza need to take some responsibility and add value to the team.
