Randy Wittman wants to lead Washington Wizards to the playoffs next season – NBA News
Randy Wittman took over as the interim head coach of the Washington Wizards from flip Saunders during the previous season.
In the months that followed, he was able to do a good job with a young team, as the Wizards improved under him by leaps and bounds. The team management liked what they saw and decided to remove the interim tag off him and keep
him as the permanent Head Coach.
Now that his position and future is secure, Wittman is looking forward to next season with an aim of qualifying for the Playoffs.
“We want to take the next step and what we kind of did as the year progressed and Nene coming over here at the trade deadline and our improvement from the defensive standpoint. That’s got to be a main focus for us to get better
and better defensively,” said Wittman while talking to the Washington Post.
“You always want to believe in the playoffs. I think, you’re always striving for that,” added Wittman.
Wittman is clear about his goals for the next season, but it will be an uphill task from here on if he wants to achieve his objectives.
he Wizards have a tough schedule to start the next season, which will see them play a lot of away games in the first few weeks. Wittman knows that, and is trying to get his team ready so that they can create some momentum in the
early part of the season.
The success of the Wizards next season however depends more on their point guard John Wall than on Wittman.
Wall was the number 1 draft pick of the 2010 NBA Draft and was expected to become the franchise player for the team, leading them to a turn around that many fans have been waiting for.
Wall will be starting his third year with the Wizards in late October, and knows that this is the year when he needs to step into the next tier of point guards and prove himself as a player. If he does that, the chances of the
Wizards making it to the playoffs next season will increase significantly.
