Randy the over rated couture?

people(ufc fans) keep banging on about fedor emeilanenko being over rated because he hasnt fought a top heavy weight since 2005. maybe he hasnt fought a top heavyweight since then but how then can you say that randy coutre is not majorly over rated.

randy couture has not fought and won against a great heavyweight in my eyes since his win over pedro rizzo in 2001. tim sylvia is an awful heavyweight in my eyes and gonzaga is still two green to be called a top heavyweight. when coutre did come up gainst a top guy he lost(josh barnet).

so why are people still claiming randy couture to be the top heavyweight in the world?

  1. Its the whole captain america thing, he was an excellent marketing tool/ story with his age and wining back the title. Even in his prime he wasn't totaly dominant, I think what makes him so hyped is is age and his level of competitiveness (which is amazing), and this is attractive to the  mma audience because it is inspirational.

  2. i agree with you 110%. there is nothing special about Randy Couture. Liddell beat him twice. he has great greco roman wrestling and that is about it. he is no way top HW in the world. not until he fights Nog and defeats him.

  3. yep he sure is overrated 16-8 and he's the no 1 heavyweight in the world he's also boring as h**l Everyone likes him because of the Captain America b.s. he got going for him

  4. Randy "The Natural" Couture was the greatest heavyweight MMA fighter for his age that MMA fans have ever seen. Few fighters in the future will ever be as good in their 40s as Randy was in 40s. Many will get severely beaten trying duplicate Couture's accomplishments in their 40s.

  5. Randy is a legend! When you turn 40 you might understand what an accomplishment he did!

  6. im now rooting for tim sylvia so you can eat some crow. Randy has been better than ever in his last two fights because he learned some stand up striking skills. your talking about ancient randy couture, he's evolved since then.

I think you know this and you know he would trash fedor if he saw him on the streets or the ring.

  7. randy is one of the most popular fighters to ever fight in MMA.  its only logical that he will become overrated by fans.

randy of course is a great great fighter, but after you look at his record its obvious he doesnt contend for the title of "greatest" anything.

you cant lose to ricco rodriguez (tapped to strikes), enson inoue (armlock), valentin overeem (choke), mikhail illokhine (armlock) and vitor belfort (very quick tko stoppage) and be the greatest of anything.

chuck lidell and josh barnett both destroyed him too, but its no shame to lose to either of those guys.

i think randy is likely an all time top 10 heavyweight and should go down in history as a true pioneer of the sport.  he was fighting long before it was popular.

but its true.  his charisma, bravery and ability to pull off massive upsets have caused fans to over rate him for years.

i dont think any TRULY knowledgable MMA fans consider him to be the best heavyweight.

still, to the average casual fan, i think he will always be the best.

  8. randys a little overrated, hes done some great things, but has his fair share of losses, he will never beat Fedor

  9. I don't think he is. I can't stand the guy.

  10. ppl are claiming that randy is the top heavyweight because he is the champ and no one has been able to take the belt( maybe there are no top heavyweights right now???) . pretty self explanatory " in my eyes" lol.

emeilanenko is awesome and i hope he is as tough as tektarov but hasn't fought in the octagon. i have seen UFC "top-guns" get their asses handed to them

in a PRIDE ring so you are comparing apples and oranges there.

the UFC is a popularity contest more than a competition nowadays( look at the payouts and who made the most just for being a promotional tool and doing little or nothing in the ring over the last year), chuck liddell( i respect the fact that he is one of the pioneers and a h**l of a fighter) is a prime example(who else has put together a losing streak like him and made a reported 15 mil a year, smart business, not results in the ring) while randy, ( not seeming to be the smartest business man, think he should have honored the contract as agreed then held out for what he was really worth to MMA) makes 1/20th of that for holding a championchip belt.

right now no one has taken the belt from randy in the ring.

randy and GSP are the only legitimate champions in terms of really getting it done in the ring, the rest are (poster-boys) that bring in the casual observer PPV bucks because ppl "like" em.
