Nile Ranger has returned to Newcastle after loan spells with Barnsley and Sheffield Wednesday and is aiming to impress manager Alan Pardew as he attempts to secure a place in the first team.
Ranger arrived at Newcastle in the summer of 2008 and made quite an impact for the reserve squad, finishing with fifteen goals for the Under-18s and seven goals for the reserve team. Ranger’s performances were rewarded by Alan Shearer, who was manager at
that time, with a three-and-a-half-year contract.
Ranger played in the Coca-Cola Championship following Newcastle’s relegation and made his Premier League debut on 16th October 2010 when the club returned to the top flight, helping Newcastle to a 2-2 stalemate against Wigan Athletic. From then
on, Ranger started to feature in a lot more games.
Current manager Alan Pardew put his faith in the young striker on more than one occasion, but was disappointed by the player’s off the pitch behaviour and poor discipline. The player was surrounded by controversy – public drinking, disorderly conduct and
assault became a norm in 2011 and posed a risk to both the player and the club’s reputation.
Ranger moved to Barnsley on a season long loan deal but came back injured, despite having a fairly successful season with the club. Ranger was then loaned off to Sheffield Wednesday in League One where he helped them edge closer to promotion in the Championship.
It was clear that Pardew was not the biggest fan of the London born striker.
Ranger returned to Newcastle yesterday having passed a medical and pre-season fitness tests. With Newcastle looking short on coverage up front, Ranger is desperate for an opportunity to impress manager http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alan-c4244 Pardew and push for a place in the starting line-up.
Leon Best has already signed for recently relegated Blackburn http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rovers-c40385, and Peter Lovenkrands was released earlier in the summer. Ranger will not get a better chance than this if he is to partake in Pardew’s plans.
However, it was reported earlier this morning that Sheffield Wednesday are still keen on Ranger, despite him having returned to his parent club.
Even though Best has left the club, Newcastle still have the likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Demba-Ba-c10812 and Papiss Demba Cisse as striking options. It is unlikely that Pardew will consider Ranger in his plans as the manager is supposedly looking for another striker in the transfer
market.
