Rangers CEO, Nolan Ryan talks about C. J. Wilson’s woes and improvements
Things may not be looking good for Texas Rangers pitcher C. J. Wilson but it is always nice to have the backing of the club CEO and President when you are having a bad time on the mound. That especially matters when the CEO is a Hall of Fame and a former
pitcher for the club. Nolan Ryan took the opportunity to talk about the player during an interview at a baseball network on Thursday, October 20, in St. Louis.
The Rangers picked up a close win over the St. Louis Cardinals at Busch Stadium in St. Louis and their win from Game 2 of the World Series means they are 1 – 1 in the competition. Ryan emphasized on the Rangers determination to win and he made note of Wilson’s
role as the hurler picked up a 3 – 2 loss in Game 1 of the tournament on Wednesday, October 19.
The CEO talked positively about the hurler but stressed on the need to make small improvements before Game 5 comes around.
"He was better last night, but I think he's been erratic," Ryan said. "His command [has been erratic] and [he's been] making some pitches that weren't good pitches.
"I think that he goes out and tries to make good pitches and tries not to give them pitches to hit. Maybe he tries to be too fine at times and gets behind in the count. That changes your approach of what you can do and what you need to do. The count dictates
a lot. That's kind of where we are."
Wilson is currently 0 – 3 in the in the postseason campaign. He has improved in his earning runs average but he is still in the danger zone with a 7.17 standing. From four games, the hurler has picked up a bad momentum and the club manager Ron Washington
is trying hard to ready Wilson for the ultimate test in the coming week.
Wilson’s drastic decline comes as a mystery to many baseball critics as he was the club’s best pitcher with a 16 – 7 standing in the regular season with an earning runs average of 2.94.
