Rangers General Manager Jon Daniels keeps an optimistic look in offseason
The Texas Rangers may have ended the 2011 season on a sour note but the club is looking to climb out of its recent World Series defeat woes and focus on the campaign ahead. As the offseason period looms over, the General Manager of the club, Jon Daniels
talked about the optimism that needs to breed in the coming days. The club reached the World Series for the second year in a row and that is a big achievement. As the GM talked to the press on Monday, 31 October, there was a sense of reason in his voice.
The Rangers lost the ultimate title in Game 7 of the World Series against the St. Louis Cardinals, but their focus is ever clear. Yoshinori Tateyama and Colby Lewis have been signed up for 2012 through options and there is a debate on luring C. J. Wilson
back to the pitching rotation from free agency with a lucrative deal.
Daniels knows the costs of retaining the club members are high and he told the press he is hard at work in analyzing who the main players in the team are and who can be forgone in the free agency.
There are top players in the market but there is little chance the team would move in to sign on big names to the club. Stars like Prince Fielder and Albert Pujols may not be coming in to the roster but moves can be made to sign up Francisco Rodriguez, Carlos
Beltran and Roy Oswalt.
Nevertheless, whatever happens, Daniels is looking at the future in a positive light.
"I'm proud of our entire organization and all that we have accomplished and how far we have come," Daniels said. "There is much to be proud of. Make no mistake, we're not happy with how it ended, but we're not going to let that take away from what we have
accomplished and how far we have come.
"The only way to erase the bitter taste is to get back there and win it all. That's where our heads are right now more than ever."
Hopefully, the Rangers will strike back from their disappointing performance in the 2011 World Series and go on to win the 2012 tournament.
