Rangers beat St. Johnstone 2-0: Scottish Premier League – Recap
Rangers beat St. Johnstone 2 goals to 0 in a Scottish Premier League fixture on Tuesday, 5 April, 2011.
The match, which was played at McDiarmid Park, was easily won by the Blues who overtook Celtic at the top of the table courtesy of goals from Kyle Lafferty and Steven Naismith.

Rangers got the game off to a decent start but soon the pace slowed down and most of the game continued in the midfield.
Lafferty was the one causing problems for the hosts as Johnstone’s defence looked weak. He was finally rewarded for his efforts as he earned a 1-0 lead for Rangers after the striker ran past the goalkeeper and placed the ball into the bottom corner in the
19th minute.
The Teddy Bears continued to dominate but the hosts did not let the visitors to extend their lead as the first half came to a close. Goal scorer Lafferty received the only booking of the half in the 40th minute.
The Saintees started the second half determined to get level with the Gers but Rangers’ defence stood firm as the hosts were continuously denied.
Second half substitute for St. Johnstone, Peter MacDonald made numerous runs in the visitors’ box but somehow Rangers survived his scare. The Saintees were still hopeful of an equaliser as the match headed towards its closing stages with Rangers still a
goal in front.

With this win, Rangers have climbed to the top spot with 68 points leaving Celtic behind who are second with 67 points and have a game in hand.
St. Johnstone are 8th in the table with 34 points. They will play fourth-placed Dundee United next on Saturday, 9 April, 2011 while the Teddy Bears will take on bottom placed Hamilton Academical on Sunday, 10 April.
