Texas Rangers cruise to a 11-4 win over the Detroit Tigers

After losing five in a row the Texas Rangers are streaking the other way now.

Tuesday night the Rangers offence got off to a slow start, but once they got rolling they could not be stopped, going on to win 11-4 over the Detroit Tigers for their sixth straight victory.

Dave Murphy started a three-run inning for the Rangers in the bottom of the fourth inning with a home run that almost wasn’t. The ball went over the foul pole in right field causing the umpire to go to video
review to make the call.

“Some of my teammates said it was fair and some of my teammates said it was foul. I didn’t know what to think,” said Murphy.

The hit was ruled a home run and the rally was on. Before the inning was over the Rangers tied the score at 4-4.

Texas took the lead for good in the sixth inning. It was Murphy who got the go-ahead RBI when Will Rhymes failed to field his hit cleanly. Nelson Cruz and Ian Kinsler added RBI singles to make the score 7-4
at the end of six.

The Rangers put the game out of reach in the seventh inning starting with a double by Michael Young with the bases loaded that scored three runs. Vladimir Guerrero added the final run with a sacrifice fly
that scored Young to make the score 11-4.

Everyone contributed to the team’s sixth win in a row with all the starters getting a hit and most of them scoring a run.

Derek Holland pitched four innings giving up only one earned run, but four total runs thanks to a pair of fielding errors. Dustin Nippert got the win after taking over for Holland to start the fifth and lasting
one out in to the ninth inning.

“Our biggest goal is to get contributions up and down our lineup, be as versatile as we can and find ways to score runs in different ways,” Young said. “If we do that, we should be in good shape.”

With the win the Rangers improve to 81-63 on the season to extend their lead in the division to nine games over the Oakland Athletics in the AL West.

Texas will look to continue their winning ways Wednesday against the Tigers in the second game of their two-game set. Colby Lewis is scheduled to take the mound for the Rangers against Armando Galarraga for
the Tigers.

Lewis will try to get his second win in the row after failing to get a win in 10 straight games. Galarraga will be pitching on short rest after scheduled starter Rick Porcello was scratched due to an injured
finger.
