Rangers keep their coaches, Angels reel in two Dominican prospects
The Texas Rangers will be looking to climb back from their second World Series defeat this year when they head into the 2012 Major League Baseball season. Manager Ron Washington wasted no time in clearing one of his tasks for the future and that concerned
the reassignment of all the coaches that had been part of the club, this season. On the other hand, the Los Angeles Angels signed on two Dominican prospects. All these developments took place on Tuesday, November 1.
When Washington was asked during the World Series who he hung out with, he replied calmly.
"I get to hang out with Mike Maddux, Jackie Moore, Gary Pettis, Dave Anderson, [Scott] Coolbaugh and my team," Washington said. "That's it."
Adding in Andy Hawkins, the Rangers are set for the upcoming season, as far as their coaching contingent is concerned. Coolbaugh has done very well as the club’s hitting coach. He has done well to replace Thad Bosley as the club’s coach.
Pettis will retain his position as a senior member of the staff and the club’s first base coach. Maddux will enter his fourth season as the club’s pitching coach, while Hawkins will be back with the bullpen roster as their coach. Moore will be the bench
coach and Anderson will be the third – base coach and infield instructor.
The Angels have signed on Ayendi Perez, a prospect from Azua, for a $25,000 bonus. The Dominican player is strong in defence, speed and hitting. Ranyemi Alberto Mendoza is another Dominican player to sign with the Los Angeles Angels. He has been signed for
$70,000 and he is expected to be a power hitter.
Jerry Dipoto, the new general manager, had vowed to invest in Asia and Latin America. The recent move stands as a testament of his intent.
"We want to be as aggressive as possible in Latin America," Dipoto said during his press address on Saturday announcing that he had agreed to a three-year deal with two option years. "No farm system out there is deep enough. You can never have enough players."
With the two top teams sorting out their human resource capital, it looks like 2012 will be an exciting year for Baseball.
