Rangers loan star keen to face Manchester City in Europa League
On-loan Rangers winger Vladimir Weiss says that he is deserate to face his parent club Manchester City in the UEFA Europa League.
The Scottish Premier League champions dropped down to the second tier of European competition when they were beaten 1-0 by Manchester United at Ibrox on Wednesday 24 November and group rivals Valencia
beat Turkish champions Bursapor.
Despite his disappointment at no longer being able to play in the Champions League this season, Weiss — who is on a season-long loan at Rangers — is hoping to line up against his friends at English Premier
League side City and claims that Rangers are capable of emulating their run to the 2008 UEFA Cup final, which was coincidentally held at City's home, the City of Manchester Stadium.
Weiss told reporters: "There's no reason why we cannot have a good run in the Europa League. Yes, there are some very good teams in there. We've been brilliant so far this season in Europe in and if we
play like we have done in four of the five group games then I see no reason why we can't go all the way again.
"A wee bit of luck would be needed along the way but who knows? We make it hard for teams to play against us. We've a defensive set-up that also allows us to make chances. United had to work very hard
indeed to beat us. Manchester City are in the Europa League and I would love it if we drew them. I don't know what the rules are regarding my contract. If it was down to me, I'd play. Funny things happen in football."
Rangers will find out who they play in the round of 32 of the Europa League when the draw is made on 17 December.
