Rangers looking to steal bases, Matt Harrison remains Game 7 starter
The Texas Rangers picked up their third win of the World Series on Monday, October 24, at the Rangers Ballpark in Arlington. Their 4 – 2 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals in Game 5 now puts them within a game of clinching the ultimate title in Major League
Baseball. They however are looking to strike on the mark with base steals. The club has a daunting task at hand and they want the right tone added to their sting.
On the other hand, Texas manager Ron Washington has confirmed that Matt Harrison will start Game 7 if the Rangers fail to push through Game 6 with a victory.
The Rangers won Game 4 after Derek Holland provided a brilliant start to their defensive strategy. Pitching for more than eight innings, availed the Rangers an opportunity to go 4 – 0 in the game, at the end of the ninth innings. They however had an issue
to deal with. They wanted to steal bases but due to problems on the strike zone and the Cards’ fielding, the squad was unable to do its job.
Edwin Jackson pitched strongly for the Cards while the fielding side proved to be a close match against the Rangers.
"We would have done more, but he was too quick to the plate," Washington said. "When the pitchers are too quick, you can't run. You're going to get blown up. If they're not, the catcher can drop the ball on second base and it's not going to help them."
Harrison, on the other hand, got the positive support from his manager. After conceding five runs from 3 2/3 inning of pitching in Game 3, the player was rumoured to be replaced by Holland in the rotation. However that is not the case and the manager clarified
that the Game 4 starter might come in from the bullpen.
"That's Harry's game," Washington said. "You're going to find out that I stay consistent. Derek might be available out of the bullpen, but that's Harry's game."
Washington expressed his views openly and emphasized his discipline in selection.
"Matt Harrison earned it," Washington said. "That's the way we roll. That's still Harry's game."
With just a win left on the board, can the Rangers finally take the crown this year? That will be a question best answered by Game 6.
