Rangers ponder winning chance, Yankees bloom in 8th to win (Pt. 1)
When it comes down to the final days in Major League Baseball, the top cream of the game go head to head against each other, in an effort to decide which one of those teams lay on the 1stposition of the sport. The two
leagues decide their top seed club and then pin them together for a decider in a World Series bid. The objective is simple; win the most games till a winner comes through with the right result.
2010 is entering the championship season where two top teams from both the National and the American leagues are going to compete to be crowned the top squad in their respective division. In the World Series the two winners from
the championship will go head to head against each other in a bid to tie the World Series title to their history.
The New York Yankees moved into the championship when they beat the Minnesota Twins in the playoffs. The series with the Central title holders lasted just three games as the wild card berth squad of the Yankees came through with
some fancy work and display on the field. However, the determination to make it through did not solely generate from the East side.
The Twins were on a bad run before the post season even began. For what was known by most fans, the side was performing poorly and when their last series against the Toronto Blue Jays took place in the normal 2010 season, they
lost 3 – 1 in the series. When Minnesota went up against the Yanks, they were not spared from any humiliation. The side lost the playoff bid in just three games. The Yankees first defeated the side in their home stadium of the Target Field in two games. Then
finally, the side put the Central side away in the last game in the Yankees Stadium. Derek Jeter welcomed the progression to the next round with a few words: "We have a long way to go. We gained a lot of confidence, the way we did last year in the playoffs."
Where the Yankees had a considerable trendy advantage over their opponents in Minneapolis, the Tampa Bay Rays were not so lucky. Joe Maddon’s men faced a new and boosted Texas Rangers at their home. With the likes of Cliff Lee
and Josh Hamilton in the squad there was the chance of losing to the West division winners. Unfortunately, the story wasn’t going to take a different path. The Rays lost the first two bouts and won the next two push the series into game 5.
The side had a chance to pounce on the Texans but lost the chance as simple mistakes brought the club to its knees as Ian Kinsler ended the team’s misery with a homer in the 9th inning. Josh Hamilton was robust with
the results and managed to share a few words with the press, detailing on what he thought about the situation: "It's unbelievable. Something we're proud of because it's never happened in Texas before. Hopefully, we can take it to the next level."
On Friday, the two teams collided in the match up for the first game in the American League championship. The Yankees brought on Carsten Charles Sabathia for the pitching duties in the game. With an amazing 21 wins in the normal
season, the strong 30 year old pitcher was looking to cement his place in the post innings like Cliff Lee and Roy Halladay of the Philadelphia Phillies.
On the other hand, the Rangers brought on C. J. Wilson who has been productive for the Texans in the playoffs and the normal season. His Earning Runs Average of below 4 has been an influential asset for Ron Washington. If Cliff
Lee was not going to start the match on Friday, it was important to bring on Wilson who is arguably, the Rangers’ second best ball thrower.
