Rangers ponder winning chance, Yankees bloom in 8th to win (Pt. 3)
The Texas Rangers made their way to the American League Championship, only to find themselves penned out against the New York Yankees who progressed to the stage after beating the weak Minnesota Twins in the playoffs. The West
title holders were hosting against the reigning World Title Champions and the encounter showed how important it was for the team as the game was being featured in the Rangers Ballpark. With a crowd of 50,930 in the stands, the matchup was going to provide
them an unforgettable start.
The Rangers have met the Yankees before in the playoffs and unfortunately, they were unable to climb up against them in every occasion. They failed to impress and after 11 years they went toe to toe in a bout against one another
in a renewed rivalry, on Friday. The Texans have been doing well this season and with players like Josh Hamilton and Cliff Lee, they are dominating the headlines in Major League Baseball. With the hitter, Hamilton being considered for the Most Valuable Player
of the year, things can’t get better for the West. Manager Ron Washington is one happy manager and with the team collectively putting in a stellar performance on the field, every manager would be proud to say the least.
The Rangers are especially formidable in the playoffs. Lee hit form against the Tampa Bay Rays and provided with two important victories. On the other hand, Ian Kinsler and Nelson Cruz have been remarkable with the bat. Their 5
games series ended with them clinching the Championship spot in the last game and with that they went back home in great confidence to face the Yanks.
Manager Joe Girardi, on the other hand, has been hoping for the Yankees to hit form and it may have been just luck that got them through the post season. The Twins were weak to say the least and when they defeated their opponents.
They did in style, besting the Central Division holders in just 3 series games.
Carsten Sabathia started the duties for the Yankees as their starting pitcher on Friday and it came as of no surprise that he featured in the 1st game given his influence. To say the least his record stood taller and
classier than the Ranger’s star pitcher, C. J. Wilson. The quick thrower of the ball was amazing to watch and with the game entering the bottom 4th inning, he pitched a shutout.
The Rangers made Sabathia paid in the 1st inning as the game went into the bottom 4th, things took another turn for the worse as the Yankees went in to take out the Texan hitters. Matt Treanor began the hitting
with a single to the centre. Jorge Cantu came in but flew out just as fast. Elvis Andrus, who was in great knock, came in and singled to the centre, leading Matt to the second base. All it took next was for Michael Young to come in educate the Yankees on what
they missed out on when they didn’t make a move for him 11 years ago in the transfer window.
Young blasted a double to the deep right centre to drive in 2 RBI (Runs Batted In), pushing Treanor and Andrus in for two added runs in the match. The score now was 5 – 0 and the Yankees were in a massive lot of trouble. Carsten
Charles was dipping form and as the 5th inning went into session, he was taken off for the bullpen. The Texans had a lot of faith in Wilson and kept him on.
However, doing so meant his ball throwing got weaker and weaker during the game. It was the top 7th inning that changed the stake on the game. Robinson Cano came in for the Yanks and smashed C. J. for 394 feet homer
to the right. The score was now 5 Texas – 1 New York and with 3 innings left to be played, there was no telling where the encounter was going to go
