Rangers ponder winning chance, Yankees bloom in 8th to win (Pt. 5 Final)
The Texas Rangers were locked in their first encounter against the New York Yankees in the American League Championship on Friday and this marked their first accomplishment, the team made since the club’s creation. The West
title holders were going out against a team that had bested them in every playoff event they qualified for, over the years. The New York Yankees were a thorn on their side and the new post season brought them face to face against their rivals again as the
two giants faced off in a bid to claim the World Series Title.
The Yankees were visiting the Rangers Ballpark for the first time and given that the team had a view on a 29th brace at the World Series, they had a hard task of beating the Rangers at home. The bout
was going to mark the 1st engagement between the two and with the ball clubs battling out on the field for all the glory, there was much to be anticipated by the large following supporters of Major League Baseball.
The two sides met and engaged in a competition that was going decide their fates in their final struggle for the main title. The Rangers brought on one of the star players to the encounter as Cliff Lee was unavailable, following
his feature in the 5th match up against the Tampa Bay Rays in the post season. The veteran maestro is slated to come back on the mound in the 3rd game, but the Texans had a hard task of bringing on a talented
player for the fixture.
C. J. Wilson featured in the game and the 29 year old expert ball thrower had a good 2010 season to back his credentials and selection for the encounter. In the normal league he maintained an Earning Runs Average of 3.35. In addition to that, he had the highest
wins for the team, 15 in 33 games, losing just 8 games in the year. In the playoffs he pitched against the Tampa Bay Rays and availed a stellar result of 7 strike outs in 6.1 innings of pitching. He allowed no runs in that game. However, his skilful display
against the Yanks was not going to count for a win as the bullpen conceded far too many runs in the game. He allowed just 3 runs off 6 hits in 7 innings. The figure was a lot better than the New York Yankees start pitcher.
Charles Carsten Sabathia was the man to go down in the encounter for the Yanks and many expected him to perform at his prime against the West side players. Unfortunately his good form from the season is far from present in
the championship. He beat the Minnesota Twins in the Yankees’ first game but going up against the Texans was a different thing altogether. There was always going to be a hard task for the big man and in the game on Friday, the ball was working well for the
ace pitcher.
Sabathia has a good record in the league and that is backed up by some formidable performances against all teams. He won 21 games in the campaign and became a candidate for the Cy Young Award. Unfortunately, his current form
is dipping and one can’t tell how this bid for the World Series is going to turn out for the big man.
Day 1 of the series was supposed to see the wrath of Carsten Charles but his time on the mound ended by the time the 9th inning came. He allowed 5 runs off 6 hits and that made his night look worse
as his post season Earning Runs Average went up to 11.25. Compared to his regular season Earning Runs Average of 3.18, the view on his performance suggests a negative effect on the morale of the squad.
