6.5 million a year. Wow...... that franchise sure likes throwing money at mediocre players, don't they?

  1. He's on the back nine of his career and locked into a 6 year deal. I would have liked Redden at $5M and accepted a deal for $5.5M.

The team now has $8.5M (not counting Rissmiller and Voros salaries) to go after Jagr, Sundin, Hossa, Orpik, Avery, blah-blah-blah. It'll be interesting to see what they do from here.

They still need a physical presence on defense (Orpik) and the grit Avery brought cannot be discounted.

  2. theyve been doing that for years

  3. They over payed like all the NY teams do. He isn't getting any better, I can tell you that.

  4. Mediocre and getting worse.

  5. It's the early 2000s all over again.  Back then, it was Pavel Bure, Eric Lindros, Bobby Holik, and Darius Kasparitis.  They seem to be going back to their old ways.  The last time they did this, they went 9 years without a playoff appearance.

They should be doing 2 things: 1)Re-signing Sean Avery.  Like him or not, the Rangers are something along the lines of 50-23-4 with him and sub .500 without him.  2)Let Jaromir Jagr walk.  He's still a solid player, but  he's clearly aging and this team must go younger.  Marian Hossa should have been priority #2 after re-signing Avery.
